The Influence of the Parathyroid Glands

چکیده
of hyperparathyroidism. This study examines the regulation of parathyroid gland activity in magnesium-deficient rats. Magnesium deficiency was induced in intact and chronically parathyroidectomized animals by feeding them a diet free of this cation. Control animals were pair fed and treated identically except for the inclusion of magnesium in their gavage solution. Magnesium-deficient rats with intact parathyroid glands developed significant hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia. In addition, the concentration of ionic calcium il lslasa was significantly elevated. In contrast, magnesium-deficient parathyroidectomized animals did not have a higher level of calcium in plasma than their nondeficient controls; they developed a decreased concentration of ionic calcium in the absence of a difference in the concentration of phosphate in plasma when compared with appropriate controls. The increased urinary excretion of phosphate was independent of the parathyriod status of the animals. It can be concluded that the hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia of magnesium deficiency demands parathyroid gland activity and that the Dr. Kukolj's current address is Torre Molinos 601, Las Condes, Santiago, Chile. Received for publication 22 Augutst 1966 and in revised form 25 September 1967. regulation of this activity is modified in the magnesium-deficient state to permit the maintenance of an elevated concentration of ionic calcium in plasma. Additional explanations must be found for the hyperphosphaturia.

Response of Ultimobranchial and Parathyroid Glands of the Indian Skipper Frog, Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis to Cadmium Toxicity
Background: Cadmium toxicity has been shown in aquatic animals but the effect on frog’s endocrine glands is not known. We investigated the effects of cadmium on ultimobranchial and parathyroid glands of Indian skipper frog, Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis. Methods: Frogs were exposed to cadmium chloride for short and long terms and sacrificed after 24, 48, 72 or 96 h (short-term) and after 5, 10, 1...

Objective(s): In this study, we aimed to analyze the relationship between the diagnostic ability of fused single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) images in localization of parathyroid lesions and the size of adenomas or hyperplastic glands. Methods: Five patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and 4 patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) we...
متن کاملHuge Parathyroid Adenoma with Dysphagia Presentation; A Case Report from Southern Iran
AbstractParathyroid adenoma is a benign tumor of the parathyroid glands. The cause of most parathyroid adenomas is unknown. Parathyroid adenoma increases the secretion of parathyroid hormone and results in primary hyperparathyroidism. High amounts of parathyroid hormone in the blood cause the imbalance of calcium, which leads to various complications such as kidney stones, depression, lethargy,...
متن کاملParathyroid adenoma Localization
Background: Bilateral neck exploration is the gold standard for parathyroid adenoma localization in primary hyperparathyroidism. But surgeons do not have adequate experience for accurate surgical exploration and new methods are developed for surgery like unilateral exploration and minimally invasive surgery, thus, preoperative localization could reduces time and stress in surgical performance....

Background:This study aimed to investigate changes in calcitonin cells (C cells) and parathyroid glands (PTG) induced by cypermethrin exposure in rats and evaluate the protective effects of jamun seeds (Syzygium cumini; JSE) and orange peels (Citrus sinensis; OPE) extracts. Methods:Wistar rats (N=120) were treated in groups of 20 each as: Group A: Controls; Group B: cypermethrin (CY); Group C:...
متن کاملParathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide and Vitamin D in Phosphocalcic Metabolism for Dromedary Camel
In mammals, phosphocalcic and bone metabolisms are mainly regulated by parathyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) and 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D or calcitriol. In camels, circulating levels of calcitriol are 10 times higher than those determined in other ruminants and further increase during early lactation. Calcitriol and parathyroid-related peptide stimulate intestinal abs...
